1) Dorman must first produce a rough sketch of the proposed artwork for approval by the publisher before getting under way with preliminary art. His rough sketches are drawn with a simple felt-tipped pen to ensure a solid line for faxing or photo copying. He generally makes his roughs sketches on an 8«" X 11" sheet of paper, inside a 4" X 7" image area. This allows him to make notes about the content of the sketch, and any specific indications for the finished art, such as color or details. It also allows the publisher to make margin notes about any changes he may need. For most of Dorman's finished art, this means the rough sketch is approximately 25% of the size of the finished painting. However, with Dorman's trading card art, which usually features a 6" X 8" image area in it's finished form, the rough sketch is done at almost 75%. This allows the publisher a better grasp of what the painted art will look like as the work progresses.

For the Skybox Master Series: Creators Edition cards, Dorman and the other participating artists were also asked to design the lettering for their character's names. This was subsequently foil-stamped on the fronts of each card. Since Dorman enjoys designing lettering styles he was happy to produce a scratchy, stylistic lettering font. This font is a good representation of the mood of the Wastelands universe he created for his characters.
