 | 2) After the sketch has been approved, Dorman has a model pose for photos. Although he uses photos of models for reference, these pictures are used only for lighting, position and clothing folds. Often the models are posed wearing everyday clothing and holding common objects such as boxes or sticks. Dorman uses these photos for reference to transform his rough sketches into tighter drawings of imaginative and fantastic figures in wild costumes holding elaborate weapons or fighting futuristic beasts. Generally, the models are friends or family who are delighted to become a part of one of Dorman's paintings. For this piece of art Dorman had a friend, Kris Lagerloef, pose for Jack. Using these photos, Dorman begins to create a tighter sketch of the character on tracing vellum.
