![]() LURENE HAINES has been an illustrator and writer since 1986, and is recognized for her pencil, color pencil, oil, and watercolor renderings. Noteworthy projects include pencils and inks on Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters for DC Comics and watercolors on Hellraiser for Epic Comics. She has done a variety of fully-painted comic book covers, including a series of five covers for the Ms. Fury books, two covers for the Re-Animator comics, an 8-page fully-painted Deep Space Nine comic from Malibu Comics, in addition to the covers for Baker Street #10, Thumbscrew #3 and Realm #2 for Caliber Comics. Her comics writing includes "In These Blue Depths Lie Hell" for Hellraiser #19 and "angelus", her creation, for Negative Burn. Caliber Comics has also published her pin-up art books, Femina:Dream Girls and Femina Two: More Dream Girls, the illustrations for the serialized story "I'll Wait For You" in Thumbscrew, and her illustrated story, "Claire's Scar" for High Caliber. Her trading card art includes a Realm card for Caliber, an Ultraverse II - Choice trading card from Skybox, and a Star Wars Galaxy trading card from Topps. Her two books The Business Of Comics and A Writer's Guide To The Business Of Comics, in-depth manuals for aspiring comics professionals, have garnered extensive critical acclaim and an Eisner award nomination. A Writer's Guide To The Business Of Comics was named to the New York Public Library's Books For The Teen Age List. Lurene also wrote a professional column, "The Comic File", for The Words and Pictures Museum Newsletter as well as a variety of newspaper columns, including " Simply Good Cooking", the food column for The Northwest Florida Daily News and " Cinema File", a movie review column for The Reporter. Haines is currently at work writing and illustrating a variety of children's picture books, including Nerissa's Manatee Adventure and Dangerous Dan and his Magic Paintbrush. Haines also designs and builds web sites for her company, Web Fire Sudio. Lurene moved back home to Canada in 2008 to be near her family and currently lives on beautiful Vancouver Island with her two kooky cats, Frankie and Nemo, where she devotes herself to mural painting, gardening, volunteer work, and spending as much time with her nieces and nephews as is possible. |
